We share our perspective on the leadership, market and people issues shaping the sectors we serve — combining current market intelligence with what we are seeing through executive search.
The economic picture remains mixed. We’re seeing encouraging growth in certain parts of the market, while others continue to find conditions extremely challenging. Global geopolitical events are still having an impact, and we now wait to see what policies emerge from our esteemed new Prime Minister and Chancellor.
Will they finally recognise that Britain desperately needs economic growth, lower taxation and tighter control of public spending? The rhetoric may have changed, but it’s meaningful action that matters. Without it, we really are going to the dogs!
Against that backdrop, I’m pleased to report that Wilson Brook remains extremely busy. At our recent team meeting, I was able to share that year-to date turnover is around 30% ahead of the same period last year. That’s a fantastic achievement and a real testament to the continued hard work of the whole team.

We've refined our service offering, introduced a new all-inclusive pricing model, continued to invest in our candidate and client experience and made the strategic decision to focus exclusively on appointments with an anticipated basic salary of £75,000 and above.
It's been another busy and exciting few months, and I'd like to share some of those developments with you.
Whilst many businesses inevitably slow down during August, we've found that the opposite is often true when it comes to executive search. Behind the scenes, boards and business owners are already planning for the remainder of 2026 and, increasingly, looking ahead to 2027.

After a record 2025, our best year ever, we followed it with our best ever quarter in Q1.
Q2 wasn’t quite at the same level, but given the wider uncertainty, that’s hardly surprising.
Good businesses are still investing in good people. Many are strengthening their leadership teams now, so they are better placed to accelerate when the upturn comes.

Leadership confidence is improving, but appointment decisions remain cautious. Across construction, building products, merchanting and related manufacturing, businesses are becoming increasingly selective about senior appointments and the outcomes they expect those leaders to deliver.
Our H1 Leadership Intelligence examines current market conditions alongside what Wilson Brook is seeing through live executive search, including commercial performance, operational leadership, succession risk and the changing expectations placed on senior executives.

Market conditions across manufacturing, construction and building products remain uneven, with businesses facing continued pressure on demand, pricing and confidence.
In this environment, senior hiring has not stopped — it has become more selective. Employers are placing greater emphasis on measurable commercial impact, operational discipline and leaders who can perform in more challenging market conditions.
